On Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, the Art Safari will take place for the second time in the six villages of Hilvarenbeek: Baarschot, Biest-Houtakker, Haghorst, Diessen,
Esbeek, and Hilvarenbeek! Both familiar names and new faces, young talent and late bloomers will showcase their work. See: Art Safari 2026
At the location of Atelier Van Tilburg, Dr. P.C. de Brouwerlaan 1, Hilvarenbeek, Janine van Rijswijk will exhibit layered artworks (mixed media), and Peter van Tilburg will present spatial work, graphic art, and watercolours. The artworks will be displayed in parts of the house and, weather permitting, also in the garden, an oasis of nature and tranquility. To illustrate the theme, ‘dancing in autumn – you do not see what you see’, Idie Pijnenburg and Mechthild van Tilburg will recite poems in relation to several artworks. This all can be enjoyed with coffee and cookies.
My sculpture at the Vinkenslag in Hilvarenbeek, ‘Spatial Construction in an Architectonic Context’ (SCACO 1), has been given a new look by the municipality after about 25 years. From June 2026, it will be sparkling in the sun again.
It was an initiative in 2024 by architect Pieter Keeris (Eersel) to place a work of art as a landmark at each of two identical entrances to a newly built apartment complex. As an experiment, the proposal was presented to the construction company Gebr. van Gisbergen, who asked me to select two watercolours for the entrances of the Hilverhorst building at the Roodloop in Hilvarenbeek. Because the identical entrances face the village side and the nature side respectively, a watercolour of the village centre (Vrijthof) and of the surrounding countryside (Groot Loo) were chosen.
